Overview

Umbl was designed for consultants, contractors, or gig workers, who want to maintain the freedom and flexibility they have today, but also want the benefits and security that come with regular employment.

We offer:

1. Group health insurance with a tax-free contribution of 5% of your pay
   1. We add the 5%, even if you don’t enroll in our plan
2. Five days of PTO (paid out if not used)
3. 401(k) participation with a 4% company match
4. Life and disability insurance covered by the company
5. Unemployment benefits in the event of a break between engagements
6. Full administration of payroll, invoicing, taxes, and liability insurance

In exchange for benefits and coverage, we pay you on a bi-montly basis at an hourly rate based on a percentage of your bill rate.  We bill your clients directly and handle all cash flow on the back end.

Your pay rate is 80% of your current bill rate.  The hard-dollar contributions list above equate to 17% of that reduction being “paid back” to you in different forms.  The remaining 3% is used to administer the program (payroll, billing, cash float, tax filings), unemployment insurance, life and disability insurance, and professional liability coverage.

Some Details

We don’t provide work for you … we administer the work you already do, along with adding benefits.  Think of it like an independent lawyer joining a law firm.  They bring their clients with them, and they benefit from the having a firm behind them.  We want this to work for both of us, so it’s important to have clear expectations.

We are generally looking for employees who have been with a client for at least six months, or who have a successful series of clients.  There is no need to guarantee future work from you or from us, but we don’t want to become a revolving door.  Our goal is stability for everyone.

Prior to starting, we will sign a non-disclosure and non-solicitation agreement with you prior to reviewing your existing client contract.  We will then provide you with an addendum to your client contract that simply shifts the billing and payment services to our company.  You will be a named resource in that addendum.  Once your client signs the addendum, we will begin the employment onboarding process.  In every step of the process, we want you to be confident that we are not engaging with your client without you.
